Joining in December 2007, Mike is Truebyte’s longest serving employee. Coming into the business with one year’s IT experience and an inclination towards scripting. He spent the first few years forming a solid grounding in network administration with the merest hint of website-making. Interest and commercial opportunity aligned and plunged him into the work of web development. Over the years Mike has progressed successfully within the company and is now our Principal Software Engineer.

Mike, tell us what you like about working at Truebyte?

I like that I've been able to develop from where I began, with a bit of smarts, little experience, and low self-esteem - through to knowing that I'm good at what I do, and hopefully I can help other people along their way too. Within my team, I know that we're all in it to make good things, and we have some fun along the way.

What would you say is the most satisfying aspect of your role?

I enjoy figuring things out with people who use things we made. Things they would like to be able to do - when we realise we can simply solve something that was causing them major headaches another way… And then doing it.

What’s your go to productivity trick?

Shift+Delete to delete a line in Visual Studio… or coffee, if that counts?

What is your favourite quote?

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Finally, what do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I like activity and sport - all of them, I think. I like an evening at the pub with a friend. Books, films, and games. And sometimes, I like to do absolutely nothing.

Thanks for the insight Mike, it has been great to speak with you. Stay tuned, next month we shall be interviewing a member of our Service Desk Team.
