At Truebyte we have a team of talented software developers who deliver bespoke tools for both internal projects and for our customers. The software produced by the team ranges from small to large scale projects. At the smaller end of the scale, they enjoy making tools to either solve business problems our clients have been facing, or tools to improve the efficiency of their processes. Sometimes off the shelf products don’t fit what a business needs exactly, and that’s where our development team can help.
In the middle of the scale, we are proud to have developed many websites for our clients and several bespoke secure intranets which are used for internal processes within companies. At Truebyte, our software team produced our ‘Hub’ where our employees can read policies, manage their annual leave, and read internal news, etc.
At the top end, we actively develop enterprise grade web applications. Clinical Guardian, an Applied Healthcare Solutions product, is an application which we developed from scratch over 10 years ago and is still going strong today! It is a tool for healthcare providers to ensure they are meeting mandatory requirements in auditing clinical consultations. The idea of the product was triggered by a frustrating and laborious process, so Clinical Guardian was developed to improve a business process.
Our Software Development team are a friendly bunch, who love to work together and produce software that makes a positive impact on peoples’ lives. They use an Agile approach in all that they do. Working in an agile environment means that the team has a strong ethos of communicating openly, trusting one another, adapting quickly, and recognising that products produced as a team are likely to be better than products produced as individuals.
The team largely work remotely and are trusted to manage their own workloads. The team all share a single line manager, our Head of Operations, Bill, who is there for the team if any issues were to arise and provides the team with company information. Our Head of Operations works closely with our Product Manager (who is also a developer) to prioritise tasks that need working on, and this information is then passed onto the team who will then decide how the work will be carried out.
Our Product Manager, Kirsten, is an excellent communicator and does a great job of making sure all stakeholders are communicated with well and always aware of where their products are at during development. The team use iterations of work, typically several weeks, which are planned with stakeholders and then also reviewed afterwards.
Our development model has evolved over many years and will continue to improve. We recognise that we could always be better, so we regularly take time to self-reflect and think about how we can improve. We are also open to feedback, and love to hear from our customers about what we did well and could have done better. At Truebyte we recognise that trusting our development team to largely self-manage and operate remotely and flexibly, whilst retaining intentional in-person interaction with the wider team, has had a great effect on their performance and well-being. The Truebyte team work best when they are motivated, feel empowered, and benefit from our culture and company vision.
